Then imagine realizing the world isn't ready for that work. So you stipulate in your will that it shouldn’t be shown until at least 20 years after your death.

And when that day finally comes, when the paintings are unveiled, they completely turn the Western art world upside down. Not only because everything they thought they knew about the origins of abstract art turned out to be wrong, but because the art itself is unlike anything else.

So, who am I talking about? Hilma af Klint, of course. And this is her story.

Welcome to this brief history of Western astrology.

This is not an in-depth post that details the full history or all the rises and falls in popularity that astrology has experienced in the West. It’s more of a sweeping overview from ancient to present times that dips into certain places, eras, and figures that were influential in the astrological field.

On the 17th of November 1875 in New York, a society was founded that would help spark a movement that spread across the Western world and beyond. It would go on to influence many magical and mystical societies and movements in the early 20th century.

Unlike many societies at the time, this one wasn’t entirely male-dominated, as one of the cofounders, and probably its most famous one, was a woman.

I’m talking, of course, about Helena Blavatsky and the Theosophical Society. And this is her story.
