Currently Reading (April 2026)

Since my previous update in March, I have finished reading Caliban and the Witch: Women, the Body and Primitive Accumulation by Silvia Federici, which was a very interesting read about how capitalist society in the Western world took root in the Middle Ages. It also showed, in a clear way, how closely capitalism is tied to the patriarchal system and white supremacy. I haven’t read many books on capitalism, so I can’t speak to how revolutionary Caliban and the Witch is in that field. However, for me personally, this book blew my mind in how clearly it showed how the ruling power here in Europe (which basically was the church and/or the nobility, depending on the country) fucked everyone else over because the ruling powers wanted more money and assets. Definitely akin to how the 1% are acting in today’s world.

I highly recommend reading Caliban and the Witch.

Federici also mentions a book called The Death of Nature: Women, Ecology and the Scientific Revolution by Carolyn Merchant, which I believe Mona Chollet also mentioned in In Defence of Witches: Why Women are Still on Trial (which I read in February). And that’s the book I will read next because I feel like it may give me ways to articulate what I’ve been observing and reflecting on for over 15 years. And that’s that I feel like there’s a connection between how we humans treat nature and how we view everything considered feminine. Not only women and femmes, but also things like nature (including astrology), chilling out rather than hustling 24/7, being creative, appreciating beauty, etc. I’m hoping The Death of Nature can give me some food for thought so I can better articulate them.
